James Kahigi was born on November 30, 1941, in Ndago, Nyarushanje, Rukungiri District, to Mr. Ernest Kanyonyi and Mrs. Grace Kanyonyi. He married Joan Kahigi on January 2, 1971.

James and Joan Kahigi have six children:

- Sylvia Kyohairwe Tegyeza, married to Joses Tegyeza

- Susan Kyasimire Kayaayo, married to Alex Kayaayo
- Andrew Tayebwa, married to Daphne Tayebwa

Education
James Kahigi’s academic journey began at Karukata Primary (P1-P3) and continued at Kinyasano Primary (P4-P6) and Kinyasano Junior Secondary (J1-J2). He attended Ntare School for his secondary education (S1-S4). He further pursued a Diploma in Law from the Law Development Centre (LDC) and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration from Makerere University.
Career
In the 1960s, James Kahigi worked as a magistrate. During the 1970s, he served as a Labour Officer in the Ministry of Labour. From the 1980s through the 1990s, he held the position of Human Resource and Administration Manager at the National Textile Board, specifically with UGIL Rayon Textiles and NYTIL.
His service to the work of the Lord is also notable he served as head of laity at St Andrew’s Church Jinja for 25 yrs and also served at the Diocesan Synod for significant part of that time.
There will be a Funeral Service at All Saints Cathedral -Nakasero on Thursday, 1st August 2024 starting at 10:00am followed by vigil at Baker and Ruth Ainebyona’s residence in Lubowa, Entebbe Rd starting at 6:00pm.
There will be another funeral service at Rubiirizi Church of Uganda on Saturday, 03rd August 2024 starting at 12:00pm followed by burial.
