Jack Mucunguzi was born in Kitojo Rukungiri in 1958, and attended Katebo Primary School, Rushozi Primary School and later joined Mbarara High School for Secondary School.
Shortly after, he joined the struggle in 1979 following his Military Training at Ntare. After Amin had fled, he joined the Cadet trading in Monduli Tanzania the intake 17 long in 1979. Upon return, he was deployed in Kitgum and joined others after the 1980 elections. He is one of the 27 NRA fighters that attacked Kabamba in 1981. He became the commander of Abul Nasser, based in the Matugga area which was the headquarters of the NRA at the time. Jack is among the last few survivors of the original 27 fighters who went to the bush with president Museveni.
Jack also worked with URA, where he formulated initiatives for Anti-smuggling at URA and also worked for Coffee Marketing Board before joining the private sector.
Jack married in 1987 and is survived by his wife, Harriet Mucunguzi, his four children, Kakwanzi, Phillip, Nadia and Timothy. He is remembered as a man of core generosity with family being at the core of his being, very principled man, a good time keeper. This legacy will continue to make a positive difference in the lives of many.
Burial will take place on Wednesday, 21st June 2023 at his home in Rwenjeru – Biharwe – Mbarara starting with a funeral service at 11:00am.
