Engineer Emmanuel Olet was born on December 19, 1974 to Joy Nairuba Olet and Yekoakazi Olet-Iyoko. He attended Mwiri Primary School and Victoria Nile School, both in present-day Jinja City. After primary school he attended Jinja College for O-level and St Mary’s College Kisubi, Entebbe, for A-level. Emmanuel then studied at Makerere University, Kampala, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) degree. Following graduation, he was a project engineer with the Ministry of Water and Environment, Directorate of Water Development, Uganda for about five years. Emmanuel then joined the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands to pursue an MSc degree in Hydraulic Engineering (Dams and Hydropower Planning and Development). He returned to Uganda and worked as a Project Designer, Multipurpose Storage Earth Dams Senior Civil Engineer/ Consultant with Norplan Uganda Limited for one year. Later he worked with the Nile Basin Initiative in Kigali, Rwanda as a Water Resources Specialist/Consultant for eight years. Emmanuel also worked with several organisations as a Senior Water Resources Specialist/Consultant, including with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Uganda IUCN, Nairobi Sweco Gmbh, Kenya World Bank Group, Eastern Africa; as an Infrastructure Economist with Industrial Economics, Incorporated (IEc), Uganda; as a Hydraulic Engineer Independent Consultant Africa; a Civil Engineer/Consultant, Abidjan Cote D’Ivoire; and a Hydraulic Engineer with African Development Bank Group, Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), from July 2019 to his very untimely demise on June 29, 2024. At the time of his demise, he was the Chief water development officer at the same institution. Emmanuel was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sisters: Eunice, Susan and Dorothy; one brother, Denis; his aunt Juliet Basirika; his sisters’ spouses; four nephews and four nieces; and a large extended family of relatives and in-laws. Emmanuel’s life has been short but full of abundance, bigheartedness, grace and inspiration.
There will be a Funeral Service at Watoto Church-Lubowa on Thursday, 11th July 2024 starting at 10:00am, followed by another vigil at their home in Adekokwok road house-Lira.
Burial will take place in Abyenek, Ngai-Oyam District on Saturday, 11th July 2024 starting at 10:00am.
