Prof. Venantio Mvano was born on February 21st 1948 in Gatare village, Nyakabande in the present Kisoro district. He was the first born of 8 siblings to his parents Alisen Ntawuluhunga (RIP) and Jeremina Irantozi (RIP). His siblings include: Andrew Bangirana (RIP), Silva Katsigazi Tiwangye (RIP), Merenia Ntihabose (RIP), Agnes Nzabanita (RIP), Beatrice Nyiramugisha (RIP), Cyprian Tumwesigye and Ahimbisibwe Polycarp.

He attended Kagera Primary School between 1956 – 1961 thereafter joining Mutolere Junior Secondary School between 1962 – 1963. As a devout catholic, he went on to join Kitabi Seminary between 1964 – 1967. He then studied at Ntare Higher Secondary School between 1968 – 1969. An ardent student, he was accepted to study a Bachelor’s Degree of Commerce at the University of Nairobi between 1970 -1973. He further advanced his education to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) at the same university between 1974 -1975. He was retained by the university as a lecturer between 1975 -1978.

On August 26th 1978, he married the love of his life, Mrs. Jane Kamahunde Mvano. For over 45 years in holy matrimony, they have enjoyed and journeyed this life together. Prof. and Mrs. Mvano are blessed to have 5 children Bernice Kamahunde Muhiirwa, Lisa Ariyo, Doris Mwebembezi Ndizeye, Emmanuel Mukiza and David Muhwezi. Their spouses are: Solomon Muhiirwa, Ignatius Ariyo, Simon Ndizeye,Odette Mugabe and Pearl Muhwezi (respectively) whom he loved dearly. He has 10 grandchildren: Atamba Genesis, Elsie Ihorere, Brandon Muganga, Karungi Joy, Humura Grace, Isaiah Ethan, Nicole Ineza, Timothy Irankunda, Hannah Irakoze and Israel Musinga whose company he thoroughly enjoyed.

His passion for academia led him to pursue his doctoral studies at the University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A where he successfully attained his Phd between 1978- 1981. Other notable positions held include becoming an assistant professor at Shippensburg State College (1981- 1983). He was a lecturer at University of Nairobi in 1984. He eventually joined Eastern & Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) initially as a management trainer and then rising the ranks to Chief Consultant between 1984 –2022 where he retired.

He loved spending time with his family, farming (he loved his cows), football, developing his community. Some of the notable ways he gave back to his community include building a Rwemirama Catholic Parish, building a classroom block at Rushango Primary School, building a police post in Rushango Town Council.

Prof. Mvano was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2016. In November 2023, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He transitioned to glory on February 17th 2024 at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He will be dearly missed as a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, teacher (fondly referred to as Mwalimu) and friend.
