OKELLO GAUTAMA OBABARU October 22, 2020

Okello Gautama Obabaru was born to the late Otto Asanansio and the late Ms. Gladys Auma Otto on 25th December 1955 in Lira Palwo, Agago.

He got married to the late Lucy Okello traditionally in 1986; and wedded in church on 29th April, 2006.

He went to Lira Palwo P.7 School where he sat his PLE exams from 1963-1970. For his secondary education he attended; Mbale Secondary School in 1971, Kitgum High School from 1972-1974 and Old Kampala Senior Secondary School from 1975-1976. At Makerere University 1977-1980 he got a Bachelors of Arts; proceeded to Institute of Public Administration (now Uganda Management Institute) from 1984-1985 for a Diploma In Public Administration from 1991-1992,  he attended University of Manchester and graduated with a Master of Arts in Economic and Social Studies.

As an assistant secretary/administration officer he worked in the several institutions. From 1980-1982 in Bundibugyo District, Masindi District 1982-1984, Electoral Commission in 1985, Ministry of Animal Industry and Fisheries 1985-1986, and Human Rights Commission 1986-1987, Ministry of Justice as a Senior Assistant Secretary from 1987-1991. In the National Assembly he worked as a senior assistant secretary and senior principal secretary from 1991-2019. In Parliament of Uganda, he held two positions of the Director, Finance and Deputy Clerk, Corporate Affairs in the period between 1991 to 2019, the last three years were an addition because of his excellent leadership and service.

Mr. Okello is survived by four biological children as listed below:

  2. Clare Esther Kuc
  3. Ivan Gaddis Obabaru
  4. Sandra Aber
  5. Steven Amenya

He is also survived by a grandchild Ogece Patrick.

He also took care of other children as listed below:

  1. Okello Jimmy
  2. Olanya Charles
  3. Awor Pamela
  4. Apio Scovia
  5. Engola David

Dad had been sick since 21st September 2020 and along the way he tested positive for Covid 19 which he succumbed to on 9th October 2020 while on treatment at Mulago Hospital.

Burial will take place on 22nd October 2020
