Joyce Anena Lalobo was born to the late Yekonia and the late Gertrude Adongping Lolabo in Bobi Paidwe on 2nd August 1954. She was the 5th of born in a family of 9 children.
EDUCATION
The late Joyce Anena Lalobo began her studies in Bobi Primary school up to primary four level. Mzee Yekonia was transferred to Lalogi and she continued and completed her primary education from Lalogi primary school. Her performance was excellent, and she was given a scholarship to Mvara Secondary School in Arua district. After her secondary education, Joyce went for a course in Post and Telecommunications at Nakawa college.
WORK
She got a job with Uganda Post and Telecommunications in Lira as a telephone operator. She worked for two years in Lira and was transferred to Mbale in the same company where she worked for 6 years. She was again transferred to Kampala in the same company where she worked as a supervisor until she moved to the UK in 1987. In the UK, Joyce worked as a librarian.
PERSONAL
Whilst in Uganda, Joyce was a sports personality. During her time in Lira, she coupled her job with sports. She went for athletics competitions in Arusha and Dares salaam on two different occasions and in 1976 she qualified for the Olympics. During her time in the UK she became a valued member of St George’s cathedral and she proceeded to become a Eucharistic minister where she served for 13 years until the time of her death. She was also a valued member of the choir.
FAMILY LIFE
Joyce had 3 children Doreen, Geoffrey and Olivia who passed away in 1992. She was also a stepmother to two children Grace and Ephraim. She leaves behind a long-time partner Titus Oryema, 6 grandchildren, step grandchildren and 4 adopted grandchildren.
DEPARTURE
Joyce health issues began in January 2021, and she succumbed to skin cancer on 3rd May 2022.
Vigil will be held at their home in Gulu today on Friday, 01st July 2022.
Burial will take place at their ancestral home in Gulu on Saturday, 02nd July 2022 starting at 12:00pm.
