Career Background
On returning to Uganda in 1972, he was posted to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital under the Ministry of Health and later transferred to Mulago Hospital where he was involved in the operations of Mulago Public Health Dental Assistant’s school.
In the 1980’s he was a key member in the revival team of the Uganda Dental Association and spearheaded the commencement of the Bachelors of Dental program at Makerere University. This program was started officially in 1982 with the first lot graduating in 1987.
Dr. Ssamula opened up his practice to the graduates as an internship site where they would be exposed to the intricacies of private practice. He remained in private practice until his demise.
He served as Secretary in the Private Medical and Dental Practitioners Association, President of Uganda Dental Association as well as a Lecturer at Mulago Dental School.
In addition to his dental profession, Dr. Ssamula served as a Director of the Board of Rubaga Hospital, Nsambya Hospital as well as Uganda Motors.
He has been involved in several private businesses including real estate, ranching and farming. His latest passion was running his hotel in Masaka known as Tropic Inn Hotel.
Burial will take place at Nninzi Village, Kalisizo Town Council, on Saturday, 30th August 2025 starting with Requiem Mass at 10:00am followed by burial at 2:00pm.
