Today, we gather with heavy hearts and deep gratitude to celebrate the life of an extraordinary man Mr. Remigius Wamala.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, mentor, and servant to humanity, Mr. Wamala leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion, humility, and a lifetime of service to others.
Born on July 2nd, 1942, to Mr. Benedicto Kasajja Muwanguzi and Mrs. Agathi Ndikibulira Ani, Remigius was destined to lead and care for others. As head of the Muwanguzi family, he carried this responsibility with grace, wisdom, and unwavering commitment. He began his early life in Masaka, Uganda, where he attended Villa Maria Primary School in Kasasa, later St. Henry’s College Kitovu for his secondary education. Even in his youth, he showed a strong sense of purpose, a thirst for knowledge, and a heart committed to serving others.
He pursued his nursing training at Masaka Hospital, laying the foundation for what would become a long and distinguished career in healthcare. In the early 1960s, Remigius was awarded a scholarship to travel to the United Kingdom, where he furthered his studies in Medical Science and majored in Mental Health. He returned to Uganda in the early 1970s and worked tirelessly to strengthen healthcare services across the country, including serving at Butabika Mental Hospital.
His calling would later take him to Kenya, where he held key roles in major hospitals, including Nanyuki Cottage Hospital and Pandya Memorial Hospital. As Hospital Director, he was respected not only for his medical expertise but also for his kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of his patients and staff.
Ever eager to grow and contribute more, Mr. Wamala returned to the UK, where he earned advanced qualifications in Nursing Management and later a Master’s Degree in Psychology in Care Management. He served in the UK’s healthcare system for 15 impactful years as a Nursing Manager, before retiring in 2017. His career spanned continents and decades a true testament to his dedication to healing, leadership, and lifelong learning.
In 2013, Remigius was diagnosed with cancer a diagnosis he faced with immense courage, resilience, and faith. After years of treatment, he was declared cancer-free in 2018. These years brought renewed joy and time with his beloved family. Sadly, in December 2024, the illness returned. Around the same time, he suffered a fall at his home in the UK. While initial scans revealed nothing, he later began experiencing persistent headaches and shoulder pain. A subsequent scan revealed a brain bleed, and he underwent emergency surgery in April 2025.
From that point on, his health began to decline. He became increasingly frail and required frequent hospital care, alternating between home and hospital until August 11th, when he became seriously unwell. Just a few days later, on August 14th, 2025, he peacefully answered the Lord’s call.
Though his body weakened, his spirit never did. He faced his final chapter with the same quiet strength and grace that defined his life.
Beyond his professional accolades, Mr. Wamala was a man of great depth and character. A devoted husband to Mrs. Rebecca Wamala, a loving and proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. To his family, he was a rock steady, dependable, and deeply loving. To his friends and colleagues, he was a wise guide, a generous mentor, and a man who always put others before himself.
He lived not for recognition, but to serve. Not for praise, but to uplift. Not for status, but to make a difference.
His legacy is profound. Not only in the many lives he helped heal, but in the values, he instilled in kindness, compassion, humility, and unwavering integrity.
We will miss him dearly. His wisdom. His quiet strength. His warm presence. But we will carry him with us in the lessons he taught, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely.
As we bid farewell, we are reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7–8:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearance.”
Mr. Remigius Wamala, you have fought the good fight. You have finished your race with honor. May you now rest in eternal peace, crowned in righteousness.
You will never be forgotten.
