PASTOR STEPHEN PATRICK ACHILLAH November 17, 1956 - May 17, 2025

Date of Funeral

May 21, 2025

Pastor Stephen Patrick Achillah was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, teacher, author, artist, and leader. He served faithfully for over 35 years in Deliverance Church Uganda (DCU), as a Pastor, Team Member and most recently as its General Secretary. With a deep commitment to both spiritual and community development, he pastored congregations across Kenya and Uganda—including in Mukono, Nairobi, Mbale, Kololo, and Nsambya—and also served as Apostolic Base Leader for the Western Region and Principal of JOY Theological College.

He held a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from Makerere University and went on to earn a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology. His ministry began with a call to theological education, and fittingly, JOY Theological College, his final assignment, stands as a poetic bookend to his life of service. In between, he taught and mentored students across both secondary schools and theological institutions, shaping minds and nurturing spirits with wisdom and grace.

Pastor Achillah’s influence extended far beyond his denomination. He was an interdenominational bridge-builder, a beloved speaker at international conferences, and an insightful writer. He authored several books, including Power Pointers and Pitfalls in Christian Ministry, and contributed articles to national and international platforms. A gifted singer, songwriter, and visual artist, he poured his creativity into glorifying God and deepening worship experiences.

A quote he often cherished and lived by was: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity.” This ethos permeated his relationships and leadership style. He was a shepherd who walked alongside others without imposition, offering guidance with humility, patience, and profound respect for individual journeys. His ministry was marked by peacekeeping, gentle strength, and an unwavering faithfulness that shaped both churches and communities.

In the final stage of his life, he often described himself as “retired but still required”; a humble reflection of his continued calling to serve, teach, and shepherd others until his last day.

More than titles or achievements, Pastor Achillah will be remembered for the expansive heart he carried for people. He loved deeply and generously, never limiting that love to his immediate family, but extending it to the broader community he gathered, guided, and prayed for. He was a father and spiritual anchor to many across Uganda and beyond. His life was a living prayer – an invitation to unity, faith, and love in action.

He is survived by his beloved wife Tina, their children—Victor, Ruth, Gloria & Lwazi, and Joshua & Jess—and his grandchildren, Noah and Joyanne.

Pastor Achillah’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the truths he taught, the churches he helped shape, and the love he so faithfully lived each day.
