MZEE ELICARD RWEMERA, was born on 15th April 1907 in Buhanyura Village, Kashaha Sub-county in Kabale District. He was the third born among the nine children.
As he grew up, he was a very shrewd person to an extent that his elders would listen to him and accord him with respect. At the age of 34, he was recruited in King’s African Rifles Army in 1941 in Ndorwa
County, Kabale district, where he participated in the Second World War with Force number 15061A.
By then, the requirement to join the forces was 6ft’s and above and he had 6.2ft’s. During his tenure in Kenya, he was baptized on 25th March 1945.
They had two camps for training, that is Jinja and Tororo where they trained from. After the training he was moved to Mombasa, from Mombasa to Egypt, from Egypt to United Kingdom. After the Second World War, he returned to Uganda in 1950.
He got married on 25th January 1956 to Patricia Rwemera.
He is survived by a widow Patricia Rwemera, twelve Children, one hundred and twenty (120) grandchildren, one hundred and fifty eight (158) great grandchildren, twelve (12) great great grandchildren and four(4) great great great grandchildren.
After his retirement, he worked as court Assessor in Kabale High court. Thereafter he went to Zaire as a game ranger. He later returned to Kashasha-Buhanyura, he relocated to Bunyoro in 1974 by the Government of Uganda to his land.
He died on 18th April 2022.
Burial will take place at their ancestral home in Busoiga, Kagadi District today on Thursday 21st April, 2022 at 12:00pm.
